*Kickoff- A bounce-kick (bounces off the ground) that begins the game, and resumes the game after a team has scored.  The ball must travel 10 meters to be fair.
*Tackle- Taking the offensive player and the ball to the ground.  Defense is only allowed to tackle the player carrying the ball.  Blocks and other protection for the ball carrier are not allowed.
*Pass- Anything goes as long as it is not forward.
*Knock-on- When someone passes the ball forward.
*Ruck- Formed when a player is tackled. Player(s) try to overpower their opponent and "ruck over" the ball.  Once a team has the ball in their possession, a player may use their hands pick up the ball.
*Line-out- Used to put the ball in play when it has gone out of bounds.  Many strategies, including "lifting" a teammate are used to gain possession of the ball.
*Advantage- Occurs when a team commits an error, but it ends up working to the opponent's advantage.  Play is allowed to continue without stopping to penalize the offending team.
*Maul- A "jump ball".  The defending team prevents the offense from brining the ball to the ground.  This ends up stopping play, and the team who brought the ball into the maul is penalized.
*Scrum(down)- Formed when play is stopped, usually for a penalty.  The team that did not cause the penalty gets to put the ball in by rolling it between the two scrums
*Tri- Scoring by touching the ball to the ground in the tri zone at each end of the field (similar to a  touchdown in American Football).  It is worth 5 points.

*Conversion- Kicking for extra points after a tri has been scored.  Placement of the ball for the kick must be straight out from where the tri was touched down.  The kicker is allowed to determine how deep in the field they would like to kick from.
